Rubbish Rewarded

The Puhoi Roadside Cleanup held on Sunday 18 September was a wonderful experience, with around 50 people, including newcomer couples, children and teenagers, turning up to help. This was in strong contrast to last year, when about eight of the old faithfulls slogged through the job alone.

We probably benefited from their faithfulness, too, as there was remarkably little, especially of larger items, to be taken away this year. It seemed they were mainly smaller objects, including, unfortunately, recyclables such as cans and drink bottles.

Thanks to all of you, including the Landcare Group, Puhoi Community Forum, (thanks, forum committee, for the good proportion of members who participated) Sports Club organisers and workers, Puhoi River Park Society for its donation, which paid for the sausage sizzle, and Bill Marcroft who prepared the plan allocating the roads you were to work on.

And another big thanks to our Auckland Council Rodney Local Board 'guardian angel', Tracey Martin, who arranged for the skip in which to dump all our interesting findings.
