At the Puhoi River Park planting day on Sunday 24 July 26 willing helpers planted 486 trees. The park is showing quite impressive improvement with the growth of some earlier plantings.
The River Park hillside near the big kauri was alive with the sound of kids planting trees on Sunday. It was a great display of involvement by mainly primary aged children with gumboots and spades. The little plants will hopefully grow into strong and healthy trees, as will the children, with many a giant kauri and totara among them. Thanks to the River Park Landcare adults who organised the planting, to the “oldies” who set the example and to Richard Walters, who, with his brush cutter, gave the kids a hand by cutting through the kikuyu.
