On 29 June 1863 the first group of Bohemians landed on the banks of Puhoi River. This event was celebrated on Sunday 26 June this year.
Puhoi's 148th Anniversary Celebrations was full of fun, starting with the Farmers Market. It was great to hear Pita MacIntyre's Hungry Creek jazz band jamming.
Thanks to the Krippner's Te Rore Band and their friends we had a lively celebration. The band accompanied the wreath laying ceremony at the Landing Stone before we crossed to the church for yet more music and our own Kiribati parishioners singing unaccompanied choral songs.
Of great interest was a detailed report presented by historian and fundraiser Jenny Schollum on the church restoration building work being done by Simon Straka.
